The Oil Bank of Scotland: RBS exposed as massive coal funders

Graphic of RBS £20 note wrapped round coal.The RBS was recently shamed as the coal industry’s biggest UK backer, putting up a massive $15.93 billion for new coal projects in the last two years. The bank was exposed in the report Cashing in on Coal, produced by a group of environmental organisations led by Platform and including SEAD and Friends of the Earth Scotland. They are are calling for a consumer-led campaign to pressure the bank into changing their funding policy.

In Profile: Linlithgow Climate Challenge

Visiting the Linlithgow Climate Challenge group and afterwards talking to the group’s chair Peter Roberts, we discovered that six months ago there was no group, no strategy, nowhere for Linlithgow residents to turn for advice or support on climate issues. Now, things look very different- there’s a strong group on a big mission: to be an information hub for the local community on the threat of climate change and what they can do about it. Exciting event ideas for engaging your community

A good way to involve people in your area is to holding community events showing that taking action on climate change can be fun! You’ll need to think about who you’re trying to attract to an event and target your publicity in areas where they’ll be found. You’ll also need to make sure that you’ve got the information showing how an event links in to climate change, whilst keeping things fun.
