Developing the tools to tackle climate change

Today we’re launching a new report which shows trailblazing Scottish climate education projects building community action to tackle climate change - and highlights the different kinds of support needed by communities who want to take action.

The report entitled ‘Are we Switching On? Challenges and Opportunities for Climate Change Education’ identifies and profiles projects which empower people to take action to tackle climate change in their own lives and communities, rather than those which simply give information without an action-based focus. It serves as a dynamic overview of some of the key approaches to creating behavioural change through climate education, as well as an inspiring bank of ideas which organisations large or small can use to develop their own work.

Would you like to be part of a growing movement of people around Scotland taking action collectively on issues like food, energy, waste and transport? In our Climate Action Hub you’ll find case-studies of community action and links to further information showing how groups in Scotland and around the world are working locally, nationally and internationally. Small groups with big ambitions - an essential part of the change we need.

Looking for support and ideas?

SEAD’s project Switch On to Climate Change (SOCC) has been set up to help you take action on climate change in your community. We run workshops and events to help groups get involved and decide what action they would like to take. We can also offer support and advice for fledgling groups. You’ll also find a lot of information in our Climate Action Hub to help you start taking action in your own neighbourhood - creating positive changes on a much wider level.

We’ve put together a mythbusting guide to help cut through the fog of confusion and information overload around climate change. We’ve also provided lots of links to more information in the resources section if you want to look deeper into the issues - helping to answer queries about climate change and its impacts as well as getting into controversial issues like biofuels and carbon trading.
