Low impact building and eco-renovation

Timber clad house

The Yellow House

A lively website about how one couple turned their 1930s ex-council house into their environmental dream home. They wanted to reduce their energy consumption by two thirds and renovate their home using sustainable materials, but without losing comfort or style. The site has lots of info about how you can make changes in your house to save money and reduce your impact on the environment.

Scottish Ecological Design Association (SEDA)

Was set up ‘to promote the design of communities, environments, projects, systems, services, materials and products which enhance quality of life, and are not harmful to living species and planetary ecology’.

Green building links

Rob Hopkins’ site Transition Culture has a lot of interesting links to sites on all kinds of green building, from sustainable urban building to strawbale and cob houses.

Green Building Store

A UK-based online shop for green building and household materials.

Low Impact Life Onboard (LILO)

Lots of information about living sustainably on a boat – much of which can be adapted for land-based life too!

Strawbale Building

Does what it says on the tin.
